Olympic Ski Gold Medal Winner's Home!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleStein Eriksen was the world’s first superstar of snow skiing. He was the top slalom racer in Norway in 1949, won a bronze medal at the 1950 World Championships in Aspen, Colorado; won both gold and silver medals at the 1952 Winter Olympics and three gold medals at the 1954 World Championships. It was after the 1954 games that he retired from competition at age 26. With his gymnast background, he is credited with devising freestyle skiing, which included both a forward and backflip on skis and helped revolutionize the world of alpine skiing. He also was the innovator of a reverse shoulder movement which made his downhill runs graceful and flowing, like no other skier. After ending his competitive career, he moved to the United States and became an instructor at the major ski resorts. For many years, every Sunday afternoon, he would treat the public at Aspen Highlands Ski Resort to a downhill run with forward and backward aerial flips. He was so well-known and admired, many points of interest were named after him. Easy to like, Eriksen was the epitome of tall, blond and handsome Norwegian athlete, both friendly and humble.
Today, due to advanced age, Eriksen and his wife have decided to sell their estate where they have lived for over 30 years. On 40 acres in the private and gated Sundance Bench, the Norwegian-style 4,298 log home has five bedrooms, five baths and is surrounded with extensive decks. Also on the property is an outdoor gazebo with a fireplace and barbeque, a large garage, tennis court, hot tub and log guest cabin. There is access to the national forest for hiking and horseback riding and fly fishing on a private wade-only stretch of the Madison River.
Sein Eriksen, the Norwegian alpine skier who captured gold at the 1952 Winter Olympics, has listed his rustic retreat in Montana for $2.45 million.
