Before David Permut grew up to become a successful Oscar-nominated producer, he was a Holmby Hills teenager with connections to a few of the stars' children. David parlayed his inside knowledge into a sidewalk business selling $3 maps to the Hollywood celebrity homes. He rubbed elbows with supporters including Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson, but eventually got into a tiff with both the Los Angeles City Council and a mob-connected casino operator who wanted to close down the map biz.
