HGTV's Historic House Winner!

The overall winner in HGTV's 2018 favorite house contest was a beautiful villa in Sardinia, but the most interesting home was the winner of HGTV's historic category - the 1834 Robert Smalls House. Located in Beaufort, South Carolina, Smalls was a slave who gained his freedom by commandeering an armed confederate transport ship during the Civil War and and turning it over to the Union Navy. Smalls returned to Beaufort after the war and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The Robert Smalls House was named a National Historic Landmark in 1974, now for sale at $1.49 million. socialwhirl.com
