Detroit's Grand Vacant Buildings!
Detroit was once one of the busiest and prosperous cities in the world. From the late 1800s to the mid 1900s, people from everywhere moved to the “Motor City” for the jobs and good life that the city promised. Grand hotels (living in a big city hotel was very hip in the 1920s) and fancy office buildings were built. Detroit's train station was once the tallest railway station in the world, and many of its buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Now, many of the jobs and people are gone, but the buildings are still there. Big, stripped, vandalized and empty. Urban Archeology has a look at several of the vacant buildings. One is being completely restored and will soon be available for shops and upscale apartment rentals.
