Weekly Top Ten Real Estate Hot List Tue: 09-04-2010
Rosie has had a full plate recently that keeps overflowing. First her firing from Oprah’s network, then her June 9th wedding to Michelle Rounds - recently diagnosed with a rare tumor disease, and then her own heart attack. There’s no doubt that stress is a killer but fortunately Rosie called 911 in time.
The former talk show host listed her Miami Beach estate on the last day of her cancelled Oprah Network talk show. Rosie purchased the waterfront mansion in 1999 at the height of popularity of The Rosie O’Donnell Show for $6.75 million. Claiming a total renovation, she put the Miami Beach mansion on the market for $19.5 million, even though the county tax appraiser has it appraised at $8.04 million.
The man-made islands between Miami and Miami Beach have been there for ions and are lush, private residential enclaves that are buffered from the Atlantic by Miami Beach, away from the noise, traffic and hordes of South Beach revelers. Rosie’s house is on the much coveted and charming Star Island with its quaint little guard house and oval street with mature tropical landscape. Built in 1923, not long after the island was constructed by the Army Corp of Engineers, the house has 11,000 square feet on 1.1 waterfront acres with a dock and 203 feet of bayfront. Totally renovated, it has an up-to-date kitchen, new master suite with private office and terrace, new fireplaces, a swimming pool and great views of the MacArthur Causeway and Fisher Island at the southernmost end of South Beach. On Friday evenings, we’d be “sittin’ on the dock of the Bay . . watching the ships roll away” - cruise ships that is!
Joining the unemployed masses, looks like Rosie is bailing out of extra real estate - she recently sold her Chicago townhouse - and will be living full-time in New York. Near her new friend Donald Trump.
